Developing its range of superfoods

Superfoods : what are they ? Answer from a supplier.

Superfoods are nutritionally dense natural food, thus good for one’s health. They contain a large percentage of either vitamins or minerals or enzymes or amino acids or antioxidants. They don’t have their own food group: they include mostly plant-based food such as berries, seeds, grains, algae, vegetables and fruits but also some fish and dairy.

However, because there is no agreed definition of a superfood, and no definitive list, the word ‘superfood’ is on a lot of products that probably don’t deserve that designation. It leaves the consumers confused. Therefore

Laboratoire PYC ensures superfoods are more than a trendy claim and decided to regulate what is meant when we label products “superfood” and “superfruit”.

Indeed, to ensure optimal efficiency and safety,

Laboratoire PYC ensures “superfoods” are Ingredients, or mixes of ingredients, with one or more health claims.

Therefore it has carried out a selection of superfoods for your company. This way, we guarantee that products we label “superfoods” contain real health benefits. Similarly,

we ensure “superfruits” are ingredients that come from fruits with antioxidant power.

A daily diet including these products gives the body substantially high amount of nutrients : everything it needs to run smoothly and stay healthy!

Superfood : an attractive label

Designating something as a superfood has been proven effective:
Sales of blueberries soared a couple of years ago after the fruit was highlighted as a key fruit. Indeed it bursts with vitamin C and offers a great source of the antioxidant: anthocyanin. Similarly, once its high vitamin and mineral content were extolled, spinach shed its unlovely image to become one of Britain’s trendiest foods. Tea is also more popular than ever since researches have shown it is high in antioxidants and may offer good cell and body protection.

This new market is only starting to boom! *

Superfruits:  acai supplier

Superfruits are antioxidant concentrated fruits including an abundance of berries.

The acai berry is one of those and one of the most popular functional foods in the Amazon area. It contains a multitude of phytonutrients. It is a good source of fibre but is also high in antioxidants, essential for a healthy aging. Moreover, our acai berry powder sachets provide little sugar (less than 6% per sachet).

Acai is one of the world’s food with the highest ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity).
The ORAC value measures the antioxidant power. The higher the value, the greater the ability of the active to fight free radicals and cellular oxydation (aging). The acai berry is high in a complex union of several antioxidants.

Our acai berry powder extract has an ORAC value which is 4 times more than grapes and almost 2 times more than blueberry.

The berries we use at Laboratoire PYC are harvested in South America and their extraction is executed in France. We have studied our doypack packaging so that our superfruits do not lose their nutritional properties. The protective food film prevents light from entering the packaging and ensures a better preservation.
